Delhi Chief Minister recommends to suspend an IAS officer

New Delhi, Nov 08: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recommended the suspension of IAS officer Ashwani Kumar to L-G VK Saxena after the Supreme Court pulled up the Delhi Pollution Control Committee Chairman for shutting down a smog tower installed in the city.

Delhi Government said that the Apex court had directed Kumar, who is also Principal Secretary (Home), and Divisional Commissioner of Delhi to be present before it in person on the next date of hearing.

In addition to directing the DPCC to publish real-time source apportionment data for sources of air pollution in Delhi on an ongoing basis, at least for this winter season, the top court further issued directions to operationalise the tower at Connaught Place immediately.

Meanwhile, in the Government said, “Prior to the court’s orders, CM Kejriwal had recommended suspension of the DPCC Chairman to the National Capital Civil Service Authority so as to take exemplary action against officers obstructing the government’s efforts to fight rising pollution.”
