SRINAGAR, June 13:Minister for Youth Services & Sports and Information Technology, Technical Education, Molvi Imran Raza Ansari today informed the House that under Prime Minister’s Special Package, Rs 200 crore would be utilized for the development of sports infrastructure across the State, adding that 12 indoor stadia would be constructed under the package.
Replying to supplementaries raised by some members, the Minister said that the Government would consider having a corpus fund for providing sports equipments to sports persons of the State, so that they can compete at national and international level in various sports disciplines.
In reply to the main question by Mr Omar Abdullah, the Minister said that as per the Standing Policy, the playing fields are developed/constructed wherever State/Free of Cost land is available as the land compensation is not covered in any scheme.
He said that the playfield at the Government Boys High School, Rathsun in Beerwah Constituency at an estimated cost of Rs 8.07 lakhs by way of level ling and filling has been completed in 2014-15 and the said playfield has been utilizes to boost sports activities in the area . However the land at Sozieth, Narbal, Makhama and Wattalpora in Beerwah constituency shall be considered for development as playfields in case land is suitable and transferred to the Department free of cost, subject to the availability of sufficient funds.
Intervening during the reply of the Minister, Speaker, Mr Kavinder Gupta asked the Government to formulate a Comprehensive Sports Policy for the upgradation of sports infrastructure and activities across the State.
Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen, Shiekh Ishfaq Jabbar, Mr MY Tarigami and Mr Yawar Ahmad Mir raised supplementaries to the main question demanded upgradation of Sports infrastructure in their constituency.
