JAMMU, Apr 21: Former Councilors of Jammu Municipal Corporation led by ex-Mayor, Rajinder Sharma here today staged a protest demonstration alleging that the local body is not working properly.

Rajinder Sharma told reporters that services offered by the JMC were at their best till they helmed the affairs of the local body but for the last one and half year, all such services have been badly hit leaving the public to suffer.

He said that though the then JMC Councillors had no administrative skills yet still they performed well but all such services are presently seen nowhere though the present officers in the urban local body are well trained and qualified civil servants.

Sharma, said that in their tenure over 95000 street lights were installed in total in all the Wards of JMC but today there is no upkeep of these lights. The non-functional street lights are not repaired and even the repeated calls to the concerned personnel in this regard receives no response & added that the top officers in the JMC are working under pressure and there is no cross check on supplying subsidized water tanks to the deserving people.

He said that they will soon meet CM Omar Abdullah and LG Manoj Sinha with all these issues.

Former Councilors said that they were protesting against the poor work culture of JMC. There is poor water and power supply in Jammu but the JMC is raising user charges on their own and the local body has become a hub of corruption.
