BARAMULLA, APRIL 03: District Magistrate Baramulla ,Minga Sherpa today chaired the 17th District Level NCORD/NMBA meeting reviewing ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse and strengthen enforcement, awareness, and rehabilitation initiatives.
During the meeting, the DM issued several key directions to concerned officers. He emphasized the need to conduct awareness programs, training sessions for resource persons, and seminars to educate communities about the dangers of substance abuse.
These initiatives will help enhance grassroots-level intervention and ensure effective implementation of anti-drug measures. To engage youth in positive activities, the DM directed the organization of inter-youth club tournaments and district-level sports events to discourage drug abuse through sports and recreation.
Additionally, he called for plantation drives at the village level, promoting environmental consciousness alongside anti-drug awareness.
A significant focus was placed on identifying and monitoring 20 hotspots in Baramulla and 6 in Sopore, where targeted interventions will be implemented to curb drug-related activities. Furthermore, rehabilitation programs will be strengthened to support affected individuals and help them reintegrate into society.
The DM urged all stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, civil society, and educational institutions, to work collectively in tackling drug abuse.
He emphasized the need for sustained efforts, community participation, and strict enforcement measures to eliminate the menace of drugs and safeguard the future of the youth in Baramulla.
Principal Government Medical College Baramulla,Prof.Majid Jahangir, Additional Superintendent of Police Baramulla, Syed Yasir Qadri, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Pattan, Gulzar Ahmad, District Social Welfare Officer, Sajad Ahmad Bhat besides other concerned officers were also present during the meeting.
