Supreme Court dismisses Centre's appeal against an order of upholding reinstatement of senior IPS Officer, who was compulsorily retired

Raipur, Dec 11: The Supreme Court of India dismissed the Centre's appeal against an order of upholding reinstatement of Gurjinder Pal Singh (IPS: 1994: CG), who was compulsorily retired following allegations of sedition, extortion and disproportionate assets.

The Centre had challenged CAT reinstatement order saying that order of compulsory retirement was passed as per rules.

SC noted Singh was subjected to a classic case of political vendetta to settle political scores, and has cleared the path for his reinstatement.

In April 2024, Central Administrative Tribunal quashed Singh's retirement and ordered his reinstatement.

CAT noted that 2 kg of gold was planted, and false and seditious material were fabricated to implicate Singh in false cases.

On November 13, 2024 Chhattisgarh HC quashed all three FIRs against the officer observing that they seem to have been filed to harass him.
