JAMMU, Oct 20: The opening ceremony of the Convoquer 2024, the eagerly awaited intercollegiate sports meet, took place yesterday evening with great enthusiasm.
The opening ceremony began with a warm welcome to the esteemed dignitaries, including Chief Guest Shri Ranjeet Kalra (Ace sports administrator & Member of the J&K Sports Council), Director IIT Jammu Prof. Manoj Gaur, Dean Dr. Sartaj Ul Hasan, AD Sports Dr. Devi Lal, Registrar Col. Virinder Singh Jeji, AR (SA) Dr. R. P. Prajapat, OIC Sh. Raj Srivastava, and Sports Secretary Mr. Vedant Jhunjhunwala. Faculty members, participants, and representatives from various colleges were also in attendance to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship.
The ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the diyas, symbolizing the official inauguration of the sports meet. This was done by Shri Ranjeet Kalra, Prof. Manoj Gaur, Dean Dr. Sartaj Ul Hasan, Registrar Col. Virinder Singh Jeji, AR (SA) Dr. R. P. Prajapat, OIC Sports Sh. Raj Srivastava and student representative Vedant Jhunjhunwala. The lighting of the lamp signified the spread of knowledge, positivity, and enlightenment through sports. Following this, the dignitaries shared their insightful speeches. Dean Dr. Sartaj Ul Hasan spoke about the importance of balancing sports with academics.
Director Prof. Manoj Gaur emphasized the role of sports in building character and promoting unity, while Shri Ranjeet Kalra delivered an inspiring speech on sportsmanship. The opening ceremony was followed by the commencement of various sports competitions from the next morning, including football, chess, and volleyball, where participants displayed remarkable energy and determination.
The event concluded with a cultural performance by IIT Jammu's music club, *Malang*, which was enjoyed by all. The organizers expressed their gratitude to the audience and the participants and wished them a great evening.
