VC JDA meets MPDA team to finalize cleanliness drive

JAMMU, Oct 10: following other developments in JDA, Vice Chairman of JDA Jammu, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, held a meeting with the Motor Parts Dealers Association team, led by president Rajinder Parshad Kakkar, at the JDA office today.

The meeting was also attended by key officials including Vivak Modi (DLM JDA), Rakesh Gupta (Joint Commissioner JMC) and Abdul Sattar (Joint Commissioner, H&S JMC Jammu) to finalize plans for a cleanliness drive in Transport Nagar Narwal aimed at reducing pollution levels.

During the meeting, MPDA presented several demands and suggestions. First, they called for daily shop-to-shop garbage collection, stressing that the area had not seen a proper cleanliness drive since its development 34 years ago.

They urged that the charges for garbage collection be implemented only after Transport Nagar is thoroughly cleaned. The MPDA also raised concerns over illegal encroachments in the area, particularly with abandoned vehicles blocking roads.

They suggested issuing a warning through print and electronic media before conducting an anti-encroachment drive.

Additionally, they proposed that monthly garbage collection charges be categorized according to the size of establishments, as Transport Nagar comprises diverse businesses ranging from large transport companies to small workshops and shops of varying sizes.

The Association further highlighted delays in the processing of lease deed transfers and NOCs, calling for a simplification of formalities to expedite the process. They suggested adopting an undertaking bond system with nominal fees to increase JDA’s revenue.

Concerns were also raised about the poor execution of Transport Nagar’s upgradation by the contractor, prompting the MPDA to recommend diverting funds to JMC for more efficient use.

The VC JDA acknowledged the issues raised and assured the MPDA that a formal warning would be issued to all stakeholders before implementing new measures. He confirmed that JDA would initially fund JMC’s cleanliness drive, with the costs to be later recovered through collection charges.

Mohinder Pal Singh, Sanjay Dogra and Jaswinder Singh from MPDA were also present in the meeting.
