Jammu , June 07: NSUI's veteran leader and congress party national delegate from Jammu and Kashmir, Ajay Kumar resigned from congress party after 15 years in the organisation, after serving at various designations and level within the party.
"My decision to resign is voluntary on my part and arises from my concern for the welfare of the society at large and my zeal to work at a different stage to bring reforms in the society," said Ajay in his letter to the media.
Ajay, who had been the congress party’s and NSUI's one of the loyalist, oldest and most senior activists of state, and he acted at various stages and designations within the party ranging from District president, State General secretary, National delegate and also at the Central Election Authority, the electing body of the organisation. He has also worked at other states in Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections and student unions elections including the famous Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election.
Ajay hails from remote village Kharangal in Bhalessa, Gandoh Tehsil of district Doda. It is worthwhile to mention here that as the district president, Ajay laid foundations of NSUI at those places in erstwhile Doda district including Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda where there was no way to reach for any organisation. He made the government accept the demand of students for fare concession for students in local buses and transport. He also led the successful protest for vacating the hostel at degree college Bhaderwah during his tenure as district president. He was awarded the best district president by Sachin Pilot, then minister of telecom and corporate affairs.
As state general secretary, he worked as in-charge for various districts and laid the foundation of NSUI at far flung and hilly areas. He remained instrumental for the strive and protest from implementation of the RTE in the state amongst other main issues such as ‘one man, one post’, fee hike, rallies across state for raising student, issues.
As a national delegate, Ajay became the torch bearer of various high profile youth agitations and lead protests for raising the voice to student community in front of government and authorities. He played the main role agitation demanding cancellation of papers of JKSSB on which masses copying was alleged. He also led the relief camps across Kashmir valley and Poonch and Jammu districts of the state during heavy floods in 2014.
Other roles Ajay has played during his tenure for the betterment of student community included protests for rights of GCET students, revoking of recruitment policy during Omar lead NC-INC government, Creating infrastructure in Jammu university especially the Dhanvantri library, cash counters, examinations centres, cleanliness and sanitations drives across the campus etc. He also organised and led signature campaigns across the Jammu region for setting up AIIMS at Jammu.
He was also instrumental in leading and organising protest and signature campaigns across the Jammu region demanding revocation of SRO 202 (new recruitment policy).
Ajay Also Contested the Presidential Election of the YLA (Young Lawyers Association of Jammu And Kashmir High Court - 2022.
When asked about his future plans, Ajay told that it will not be a surprise that his first priority will be the service to society and the future course of action will be announced within no time as he has already decided on the future of service he has to deliver.
