Union Home Secretary holds meeting with CS & DGPs of all States & UTs on restricted supply of LPG

New Delhi, March 12: In view of various reports regarding public apprehensions about a restricted supply of LPG in the domestic market due to developments in West Asia, the Union Home Secretary held a meeting with the Chief Secretaries and Directors General of Police (DGPs) of all States and Union Territories, along with the Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas; Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; and Secretary, Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

All States and Union Territories were briefed that the LPG Control Order dated 8 March 2026 directs refineries and petrochemical complexes to maximise LPG production and prioritise domestic LPG supply for household consumers.

It was clarified that restrictions have been imposed on the distribution of LPG to commercial establishments, including hotels and restaurants, but not to hospitals or educational institutions. States and Union Territories were advised to ensure protection of the LPG supply chain by ramping up security for the concerned infrastructure and personnel.

They were also advised to monitor local LPG supplies on a daily basis, take strict action against violators, and maintain law and order on the ground.

States and Union Territories should undertake sufficient awareness drives—both directly and through Oil Marketing Companies—to allay fears and counter false rumours regarding LPG shortages, as the Government is taking active measures to ensure adequate availability of LPG for households.

States and Union Territories were further advised to closely monitor social media platforms and take prompt action to remove fake news that spreads rumours or creates false narratives by circulating old or unrelated material.
