All schools to be covered by CCTV to curb drug abuse: Sakina

Jammu, Feb 06: In a significant policy initiative aimed at shielding students from the growing threat of drug abuse, Minister for Health and Medical Education Sakeena Itoo on announced that all schools across Jammu and Kashmir will be brought under comprehensive CCTV surveillance, covering both school premises and their immediate surroundings.

Addressing the Legislative Assembly, the minister said the move is part of a larger preventive strategy to ensure a safe, disciplined, and drug-free environment for school-going children.

She informed the House that CCTV cameras will be installed inside school campuses as well as at entry and exit points, while surveillance will also extend to shops, carts, and other vendors operating near educational institutions.

The intention is not only to monitor what happens inside schools, but also to keep a vigilant eye on activities outside school gates, where children are often exposed to drugs, tobacco, and other intoxicants,” Itoo said.
