New Delhi, Feb 03: The Supreme Court Collegium has approved the appointment of retired judges as ad hoc judges in the Allahabad High Court under Article 224A for two years.
Article 224A exists for such situations, but it is rarely used. Pendency is overwhelming existing strength, and regular appointments are not keeping pace with retirements.
Ad hoc judges may help with arrears, but this is still a stop gap, not a solution. If retired judges are being recalled to keep courts running, the deeper capacity issue remains unresolved.
