JAMMU, Nov 18: Acting swiftly on a consumer complaint of overcharging, a team of officers of Legal and Metrology Department conducted extensive inspection of retail showroom under the name & style of DA Mart at Kunjwani & booked the management under relevant provisions of Law.
According to the complainant the consumer had purchased footwear for Rs 314 from the said retail Mart as per the bill. Later, on opening the package he found actual printed MRP of Rs 50 marked by the manufacturer.
The said issue was brought to the notice of the department & immediately its team seized all such articles from the seller & a notice was issued to the management to produce bills, as primafacia it appeared to be a case of misappropriating central excise duty that is as levied on MRP, since manufacturers outside the country fix lower MRPs to evade taxes.
The team also seized other deceptive packages of shirts, school bags & other items which were not marked with mandatory declarations as per rules.
