DC Kishtwar leads Road Safety Pledge as Month-Long Awareness Drive begins

Kishtwar, January 1, 2026:  National Road Safety Month–2026 was formally kick-started today in Kishtwar district by the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS), marking the beginning of a month-long campaign dedicated to promoting road safety awareness and responsible road behavior.

On the occasion, the DC Kishtwar administered the Road Safety Pledge to all the participants including HODs of line departments, officials of the Mini Secretariat, New DC Office Complex and Members of Transport Union Kishtwar reaffirming the district administration’s commitment to reducing road accidents and saving lives through collective responsibility and adherence to traffic rules.

The DC informed that the National Road Safety Month 2026 will be observed from 1st January to 31st January 2026, during which a series of focused activities and campaigns will be conducted across the district.

The campaign aims to educate road users about safe driving practices, pedestrian safety, and the importance of following traffic regulations.

The DC directed the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Kishtwar, Tasleem Wani (JKAS), to organize a comprehensive schedule of activities throughout the month.

These include road safety awareness camps, public outreach programmes, enforcement drives to ensure strict compliance with traffic laws, and medical check-up camps for drivers and transporters to promote health and fitness for safer driving.

Emphasizing the importance of public participation, the DC stated that road safety is a shared responsibility and called upon all stakeholders—drivers, pedestrians, students, and transport operators—to actively support the initiative and contribute towards making Kishtwar’s roads safer for everyone.

The event was attended by ADDC Kishtwar,  Vinod Kumar Behnal (JKAS); ADC Kishtwar,  Pawan Kotwal (JKAS); ACR Kishtwar, Idrees Lone; ACD Kishtwar, Manoj Kumar; CPO Kishtwar, Akhil Thakur; DSWO Kishtwar, Tariq Parvaiz Qazi; ARTO Kishtwar, Tasleem Wani; AD FCS&CA Kishtwar, Shafqat Ali Keen; AD Handicrafts Kishtwar, Pardeep Shan, besides other officers, staff, and representatives from the Transport Union Kishtwar.
