DC Ramban directs officers to identify and eliminate hotspots to curb menace of drugs

Ramban, December 30: Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Mohammad Alyas Khan, today chaired a meeting of the District-Level Narco Coordination Committee (NCORD) to review the ongoing anti-narcotics measures and to further strengthen coordinated efforts to curb drug abuse across the district.

The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Arun Gupta, Additional Deputy Commissioner Varunjeet Singh Charak, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Shoket Hayat Mattoo, Chief Medical Officer, Child Health Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, District Social Welfare Officer and officers from various enforcement and line departments.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrates and Tehsildars participated in the meeting through virtual mode.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Drug Inspector to intensify surveillance on chemist shops, verify stock records and prevent unauthorized sale or misuse of drugs in coordination with Revenue and Police officials.

He also instructed enforcement agencies to conduct joint inspections of courier centres, medical establishments and rehabilitation facilities and maintain strict vigilance on suspicious consignments to curb trafficking of banned and psychotropic substances.

To intensify preventive awareness, the DC directed the Excise Department and the District Social Welfare Officer to intensify IEC campaigns across the district.

He also directed them to organize Nukad Nataks under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan during every Block Diwas to spread awareness among the public. He further instructed the SDMs to hold meetings with prominent citizens in their respective divisions to disseminate awareness messages on drug abuse during public gatherings.

Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner directed the officers of the enforcement department to conduct frequent visits to potential areas, identify and eliminate hotspots, if any, and intensify enforcement measures to curb the menace of drugs from society.

The DC called for sustained coordination among all departments, local representatives, youth clubs and civil society organizations to eradicate the drug menace at the grassroots level and safeguard the future of the youth.

Meanwhile, SSP gave various suggestions to make Ramban a drug-free district.
