Suchetgarh, April 28: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, has expressed deep concern over the recurring crop damage faced by farmers in several border villages due to low-lying electricity wires.
In a press release issued here today, the senior Congress leader highlighted that farmers in villages including Hansa, Gharani, Badyal Qazian, Abdullian, and Suchetgarh are bearing the brunt of poor infrastructure, as sagging electricity lines continue to destroy standing crops during cultivation seasons. “The Government must come to the rescue of the border farmers without any delay,” he said, adding that these families are already living under challenging circumstances along the International Border, and such negligence further aggravates their hardships.
Calling for a comprehensive solution, Tony demanded that the government immediately initiate a corrective plan to remove and realign the low-hanging electric wires in affected villages to prevent further damage. In addition, Tony put forth a significant proposal to convert the non-cultivating land along the zero line into arable land.
“With joint efforts from the BSF, Civil Administration, and prominent locals of border villages, we can make this land cultivable, ensuring better livelihoods and food security for those living on the edge,” he said.
Tony reiterated his commitment to raising farmers' issues at every platform and urged authorities to act swiftly in providing due compensation to the affected farmers.
