Chandigarh, Apr 25: The Punjab Government suspended state Vigilance Bureau chief SPS Parmar and two other senior officers in connection with an alleged driving licence scam.
The Government also suspended Assistant Inspector General, Vigilance Bureau, SAS Nagar, Swarandeep Singh, and Senior Superintendent of Police, Vigilance Bureau, Jalandhar, Harpreet Singh.
Additional Director General of Police Praveen Kumar Sinha will hold the additional charge of Chief Director, Vigilance Bureau.
In this scam, people allegedly got their driving licences without taking tests or following the rules. Some allegedly paid bribes to officials or agents to speed up the process.
In some cases, fake documents were allegedly used, and records were changed to make people look eligible when they were not. It has also been found that some people sent others to take the driving or written test for them.
This means licences were given to people who may not even know how to drive.
