Senior IPS officer arrested for misuse of power in Andhra

VIJAYAWADA, Apr 22: Senior IPS officer P. Sitarama Anjaneyulu was arrested by the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department officials in Hyderabad in connection with the alleged harassment and wrongful arrest of a Mumbai-based actress & he is being brought to Vijayawada for further legal proceedings.

Anjaneyulu, who served as the Intelligence Chief during Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure as Chief Minister, is the second accused in the case. He is facing serious allegations of misusing his official position to orchestrate the illegal arrest of a Mumbai based actress, and parents, reportedly on the instructions of a senior YSRCP leader.

CID investigation revealed that the IPS officer played a key role in deciding what charges to file against the actress, how to arrest her, and who else to implicate.

The arrest stems from a 2024 case where Vidyasagar filed a police complaint on February 2 at the Ibrahimpatnam police station, accusing the actress of creating fake documents and selling his property to others. However, the CID found the complaint was part of a larger conspiracy driven by a land dispute.

The case was initially registered in Vijayawada in August 2024 after the actress filed a complaint with the new government. She alleged that she and her elderly parents were wrongly jailed, and that a group of senior officers, including Anjaneyulu, acted in collusion with Vidyasagar.

The CID has named six individuals as accused: Vidyasagar (A1), P. Sitarama Anjaneyulu (A2), former Vijayawada Commissioner of Police Kanti Rana Tata (A3), former West Zone ACP Hanumanth Rao (A4), former Ibrahimpatnam CI Satyanarayana (A5), and IPS officer Vishal Gunni (A6).

Among them, three IPS officers Anjaneyulu, Kanti Rana, and Vishal Gunni have already been placed under suspension. Following the actress’s complaint, the Andhra Pradesh government initiated strong disciplinary action against all officials involved
