One Professor accused of sexual misconduct dismissed one year ahead of his retirement

New Delhi, Apr 19: The Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi has terminated the services of a professor from its School of International Studies over allegations of sexual misconduct involving a Japanese Embassy official.

The decision came following a complaint by an official of the Japanese embassy who was in regular touch with the professor to coordinate conferences at the varsity.

She filed a complaint with the university’s ICC and submitted recordings of their conversations as evidence.

The decision to sack the professor, identified as Professor Swaran Singh, came on Wednesday after the findings of an investigation conducted by the university’s Internal Complaints Committee were presented at JNU’s Executive Council meeting.

The decision, which comes just one year ahead of his retirement, will render the professor dismissed without retirement benefits.
