FCSCA J&K to act on retailers for not "prominently rate displayed at their business premises"

Srinagar, March 7: The Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Kashmir has issued a public notice directing all retail dealers to ensure that the prices of all goods available for sale are "prominently displayed at their business premises."

The directive, issued under Section 2(6)(iv) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, aims to curb overpricing and protect consumer rights. According to the notice, no trader or service provider can charge a price exceeding "the price fixed by or under any prevailing law," "the price displayed on the goods or their packaging," "the price listed on the rate list exhibited in accordance with legal requirements," or "the price agreed upon between the parties."

The notice warns that "failure to comply with this requirement shall be treated as an unfair trade practice, attracting legal consequences, including penalties.

It added thar to prevent violations, all retail dealers have been instructed to display an itemized rate list of all products in a conspicuous location within their establishments. This includes products placed on shelves, racks, storage areas, and counters & retailers found violating these rules "shall be subject to appropriate legal action under the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

But, it is a question that it is a well aware of the lot of goods have higher printing rates even up to 100% & what system department shall adopt to crackdown on such retailers.
