JAMMU, Mar 2: Bhartiya Janata Party leader Dr Abhijeet Jasrotia has strongly backed the idea of a shadow Government in Jammu and Kashmir, responding to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s criticism of the concept.
Jasrotia emphasized the importance of a strong opposition in any democracy, asserting that it holds the Government accountable and ensures transparency.
He pointed out that while the BJP emerged as the top choice in the 2024 Assembly elections, it chose to remain in the opposition to uphold democratic principles.
He also addressed historical issues, accusing the ruling parties of neglecting Jammu since 1951-52 and manipulating constituencies to create distorted electoral outcomes.
He emphasized the need for a vigilant opposition to correct these injustices. Drawing from Abraham Lincoln’s famous quote, Dr Jasrotia remarked that the people cannot be misled forever, suggesting that the BJP’s rise in Delhi would soon be mirrored in J&K.
He praised Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma’s proposal for a shadow Government, which he believes would ensure the Government remains accountable.
Dr Jasrotia also criticized the NC-led Government for failing to deliver on key promises, such as 1 lakh jobs, free electricity, and free LPG cylinders. He highlighted the progress J&K has made under BJP’s watch, including a growing GDP and J&K Bank’s return to profitability.
Dr Jasrotia reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to holding the NC Government accountable, urging them to focus on real governance rather than empty promises.
