IPS officer suspended on charges of sexual harassment

CHENNAI, Feb 14: An IPS officer in Chennai, has been placed under suspension following a sexual harassment complaint from a woman traffic police personnel working under him.

Mr. Mahesh Kumar was serving as DIG/Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, South, Greater Chennai Police, until December 2024 and was subsequently transferred and posted as Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, North, Greater Chennai Police.

After a preliminary inquiry by the ICC, Mahesh Kumar has been suspended by the Home Department following the investigation.

Reports revealed that two women police constables lodged complaints against Magesh Kumar with the Director General of Police and Head of Police Force, Shankar Jiwa, who then forwarded the complaints to the Internal Complaints Committee on sexual harassment.
