J&K:LMD cracks down on E-Commerce Violations, penalizes major Amazon supplier

Kulgam, February 5, 2025 – In a decisive enforcement action, the Legal Metrology Department Kulgam, under the guidance of Controller Legal Metrology, Anuradha Gupta, has taken stringent measures against a key supplier of Amazon India for violating mandatory labeling norms under the Legal Metrology Act.

The supplier, a crucial player in Amazon’s supply chain, was found flouting labeling regulations, leading to strict penalties and product removals.

As part of the ongoing crackdown, a significant number of the supplier’s products have already been delisted from Amazon, and authorities are actively working to eliminate its entire online presence across India.

Additionally, notices have been issued to leading e-commerce platforms directing them to ensure compliance with Legal Metrology laws.

The special enforcement drive has so far resulted in the booking of 12 cases, with 8 cases being compounded under the relevant provisions of the Legal Metrology Act.

A total sum of ₹4.30 lakh has been realized as a composition sum till date.

Anuradha Gupta, Controller Legal Metrology, reaffirmed the department’s commitment to consumer protection and fair trade practices, particularly in the rapidly growing e-commerce sector.

The department will continue its rigorous inspections and enforcement actions to ensure compliance with regulatory norms.
