State Taxes Enforcement Samba imposes penalty of Rs 1.73 cr



SAMBA, Jan 19: The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, State Taxes Enforcement, Samba, under the directions and overall supervision of Commissioner, State Taxes, J&K, Sh. P.K. Bhat, and Additional Commissioner (Administration and Enforcement), Jammu, Ms. Namrata Dogra and leadership of Deputy Commissioner Sh. Sanjay Gupta, has achieved significant milestones in its relentless efforts to combat GST evasion and ensure compliance in the financial year 2024-25.

The department has imposed a penalty ₹1,73,14,100 through focused enforcement drives and has successfully completed inspections of industrial units claiming tax reimbursements under relevant SROs, showcasing its commitment to maintaining fiscal discipline and transparency. As part of its enforcement activities, the office verified 3,02,261 e-way bills during the year, marking an impressive 63% increase compared to the previous financial year.

Targeted drives focused on high-tax prone commodities such as scrap, cement, tobacco, and granite/marble goods, leading to penalties of ₹29.66 lakh on scrap dealers, ₹23.44 lakh on granite/marble goods, ₹17.50 lakh on tobacco products, and ₹10 lakh on cement traders. These efforts reflect the department's proactive approach in addressing tax evasion across critical sectors. Moreover, the department successfully completed inspections of industrial units eligible for tax reimbursements under SRO 519, SRO 521 (dated 21.12.2017), and SRO 63 (dated 05.02.2018) for the second quarter of FY 2024-25 falling under the jurisdiction of Circles Kathua I and Kathua II.

These inspections were conducted under the directions of Additional Commissioner (Administration and Enforcement), Jammu, Ms. Namrata Dogra by a team constituted for this purpose, led by STOs Raj Kumar Badgal and Farooq Choudhary, along with Inspectors Jagandeep Singh and Anil Kumar Sharma, ensured compliance and transparency in the reimbursement process.

The department’s remarkable achievements are the result of strategic initiatives such as the establishment of round-the-clock nakas to monitor goods movement, the use of advanced data analytics to identify discrepancies, and the continuous guidance and support provided by senior officials, including the Commissioner and Additional Commissioner. These measures have significantly contributed to the realization of enforcement objectives and the safeguarding of government revenue.

Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Gupta commended the enforcement teams for their unwavering dedication to upholding GST compliance and emphasized the importance of sustaining these efforts in the months ahead. He reaffirmed the department’s commitment to promoting voluntary compliance while taking stringent action against willful defaulters.
